There was a point in Anakim’s career where he described his sound as “melodically rich and delightfully sinister.”
But that was a past era. A period of time when a collection of words was stacked on top of each other like rungs on a ladder he thought he was supposed to be climbing to reach a level that the industry had predetermined was the place he belonged.
Now the established DJ, producer, and artistic polymath isn’t climbing anymore. He’s building. Building something that demonstrates his unique artistic vision.
This is Anakim 2.0.
There are no longer any adjectives to describe his sound. Only energy. His increasingly impressive productions evoke a duality between light and dark, heart and soul, mind and body. He is not folding his music into a specific category on Beatport to end up as another “sounds like.” His music is Anakim, and its home will henceforth be his brand new label, Celestial Body.
His journey won’t be defined by audiences attached to other artists to whom he would just be another decrepit branch ready to break off the lasting trunk. He is building an audience around his own journey by sharing it through his long-form YouTube series. The first episode is out now.
Already in this new era, he has booked international dates including a series of gigs in Türkiye and a supporting slot for Kasablanca’s North American tour. He has also added releases to his impressive catalog on labels like Factory 93, This Never Happened, Running Clouds, and Armada Electronic Elements.
In his previous era, Anakim won Insomniac’s Discovery Project, he was named one of DJ Mag’s ‘Bubblin’ artists to watch, Billboard Dance’s Emerging Artists of 2020, and was on 1001Tracklists’ “Future Of Dance” list in 2021. He has proven he can see his potential through to the next phase.
But again, words like “bubblin’” and “emerging” applied by others are irrelevant to his trajectory. He has no interest in becoming what anyone expects. He is becoming only what he chooses to be: Undefinable.
